Black rhinos

My master's degree field work and thesis were focused on black rhinos (Diceros bicornis michaeli) living in the Laikipia District of Kenya. Black rhinos are critically-endangered and poached for their horns. I studied black rhinos and their habitat in three private reserves: Lewa Conservancy, Borana Conservancy, and Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Black rhinos in these fenced, protected areas were not at carrying capacity, but had been experiencing reduced reproductive success. I was interested in habitat quality within each black rhino's home range and how that related to their reproduction.
